Today we’re going to watch a quick video of how you can use Scrapebox to check broken links. Sure this broken link building stuff is a bit white hat for me but hey who am I to judge? What I can’t handle, is watching my fellow SEOs waste shitloads of time doing things manually that can be accomplished with something like Scrapebox. After seeing a bunch of SEOs clambering about this new “broken link building” browser extension on Twitter, I felt like dropping some knowledge.
Well there you go, now maybe I’m missing something but wasn’t that easy? Only thing I didn’t think of before making this was how you would sort everything to match which broken links go with which pages. Surely you guys are smart and can figure it out though. Then you can also use Scrapebox to pull whois and/or contact page info.
The last thing I’d like to mention is this post is kind of a test to start posting smaller posts here and not always some massive in depth guide so I’d love to get your feedback on the approach in the comments. For the most part it seems people want the big content but it takes a shitload of work and I’m too busy in the trenches to keep this blog going with that alone. So I’m thinking more frequent posts might help keep it growing, sure I’ll still drop the occasional face melter but hopefully you get the point.
Cheers!
Small updates are fine, I like coming to my favorite blogs and finding new content, no matter the size of it. :)
Hey thanks, and yeah that is my thought, the way I’ve been rolling there is like zero reason for coming back daily, you either come back to reference a guide or wait for my email. I also want to be sure and up the comedy factor on the smaller stuff, that way you at least get a laugh by visiting.
Nice post Jacob! Internally we built a web app for this that simply scrapes links off a given set of pages, and aggregates them all into a list, which we can then use for Screaming Frog / URL Profiler to i.e. check status codes, and then if they meet certain criteria (i.e. 404s), check link stats. We only do it in the browser currently for making suggestions about certain broken links in emails, which we want to double check before stating, and pull the anchors of those links so they know which we’re talking about. When we pair it with BuzzMarker, where we can write up the email from the same window, then it makes things as streamlined as possible for white hat stuff.
Makes sense. Check again, I just gave you a
penalty, I mean link.I’m all for small nuggets of knowledge, keep it coming. Rather a couple of little (actionable) beauties a month than waiting ages for something killer : )
The niche needs more bite sized content like this for sure! Would have liked to see you export results and import into buzzstream to make it more complete but still with a 3 minute length.
If you’re not into monthly fees, you can do essentially the same thing BuzzStream does with Link Assistance.
•Gather contact info. I use Mechnical Turk (Link Assistant has an inbuilt scraper, but it’s a lot more miss than hit).
•Import contact info into Link Assistant.
•Use variables to create a pseudo-personalized outreach email.
Do it right, and it’s indistinguishable from a handcrafted, manually-sent email.
Yeah you’d have to be crazy to not be using some automation with it. Thanks for the tips dude.
Due its simple…. just write your shit
Well, I never thought that I can use this technique to get some new links, but because my niche is pretty crowded, I think I will apply it.
I am unable to open the extension link Jacob :( Could you please tell me where I can get it from?
Huh? I was really just talking shit.
The short stuff is good, you could also use it to gage what people really like. If you have a short post that does particularly well then you could decide to do a larger more in depth article on that topic. Just my two cents.
Yeah I think I’m just gonna try my best not to be ADD and be patient with publishing. No matter what it takes several days to crank out a beastly post, just gotta put in the time. Thanks for the feedback Adam.
Wow, epic and fast!
Keep bringing us more gold nuggets.
